(English) Fundamentals of Science Communication

Introduction and Techniques

This seminar is aimed at doctoral candidates and postdocs.

The goal

Participants will learn techniques that will help them to convey their research in a concise and understandable way, to inspire confidence among their audience and to effectively deal with critical questions. The specific objectives of the seminar include:

  • Introduction to the fundamentals of science communication
  • Acquisition of first techniques and methods of science communication
  • Strategies for dealing with critical questions
  • Discussions on current challenges and best practices

The guiding questions

  • What makes good science communication and what potential disruptive factors can hinder it?
  • How can scientific findings and ideas be presented in a simple and comprehensible way?
  • How can challenging situations be mastered well?

The implementation

Science communication is a central component of effective research work. This seminar provides an initial introduction to the basics of science communication, consolidated through exercises. In addition, the seminar offers space for sharing experiences and discussions. The seminar alternates between theoretical input and practical exercises on science communication, while constantly offering a platform for exchange between the participants.

Instructors

Jonas Blechta, M.Sc. is a research assistant, trainer and doctoral candidate at the Center for Leadership and People Management. He studied psychology at the University of Regensburg, specializing in business, organizational and social psychology as well as experimental psychology.

Stefanie Krauth, M.Sc. is a research assistant, trainer and PhD candidate at the LMU Center for Leadership and People Management. She studied psychology at the University of Vienna with a focus on work, economic and social psychology.
